FSOs welcome ambassador with motorcade of auto rickshaws

A small group of Foreign Service officers (FSOs) at Embassy New Delhi bought three-wheeler auto rickshaws as personal vehicles to experience the capital from a unique perspective. Sporting diplomatic license plates and driving through New Delhi’s infamous traffic, each FSO said they found a deeper meaning in their journeys: from flipping class and gender norms to connecting with locals in unique ways. The FSOs formed a motorcade of their autos to welcome the new U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti upon his arrival, April 12. From left: Ruth Homberg, Matthaniel Cowell, Ann Mason, Garcetti, Shareen Kitterman, Dana Garcetti Boldt, and Julie Patterson stood in front of their autos after the motorcade, which brought a sense of playfulness to the ambassador’s arrival.
