Department hosts ROK state luncheon

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken (left) and Vice President Kamala Harris (right) hosted a state luncheon in honor of Republic of Korea (ROK) President Yoon Suk-yeol (center) at the Department of State, April 27. Blinken congratulated Yoon on his “extraordinary” speech to a joint session of Congress, and highlighted that the ROK president “brought down the house” with his rendition of Don McLean’s “American Pie” at the White House State Dinner the previous night. In his remarks, Yoon said he “plans to develop the U.S.-ROK alliance in a way that expands practical benefits for the peoples of both our countries,” adding that Koreans and Americans “will learn from one another and build a free, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”
