U.S. Consulate General in Lahore Consul General Wil Makaneole explored the magnificent 9th century Derawar Fort in Punjab’s Cholistan Desert during a visit to Bahawalpur, Feb. 9. The trip was part of ConGen Lahore’s “More than Lahore” initiative, an effort to visit each of Punjab’s districts to promote better people-to-people ties and explore economic opportunities, including in Pakistan’s fledgling tourism industry. Makaneole celebrated Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and preservation efforts during the visit while meeting with the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab to discuss the future of tourism and the importance of promoting Pakistan’s unique heritage.
