The public affairs section at Embassy Monrovia recently worked with its first cohort of young, up-and-coming Liberian journalists to help build capacity, create a support network, and link the group with professional U.S.-based speakers and resources. With support from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ speakers program, award winning journalists, as well as several diplomats with experience as journalists, mentored the participants over the course of 10 monthly sessions. Independent journalist and founder of New Narratives Prue Clarke addressed the mentees in person while investigative reporter for the “L.A. Times” and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Harriet Ryan worked with the mentees virtually. The program concluded with Public Affairs Officers Sade Tuckett (third from left) and Sean Boda (second from right) presenting certificates to the 11 mentees (nine of whom are shown), June 29.
