Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Global Talent (DG) Marcia S. Bernicat administered the oath of office to 189 new diplomats, July 5, at the Department of State’s first in-person Foreign Service officer swearing-in ceremony since the beginning of the pandemic. The ceremony included the 211th generalist and 165th specialist class. Before leading the new diplomats in their oath, Bernicat encouraged the combined cohorts to “always remember what inspired you to choose a career of service, your purpose.”
