Flashback: July 1962

Sandra F. Sheskin, featured on the cover of the July 1962 issue of the Department of State Newsletter (later State Magazine), impresses the Great Seal of the United States on a presidential commission. The Great Seal, which celebrated its 240th anniversary as a symbol of the nation’s sovereignty, June 20, is still in use today. The Presidential Appointments Office imprints more than 1,000 seals each year in the Harry S Truman Building Exhibit Hall.
