Special Envoy helps secure first nationwide truce in Yemen

In April 2022, Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking (far right in right photo) helped secure the first nationwide truce in the Yemen conflict in six years. This truce is a major milestone in the ongoing peace efforts. Lenderking and the Yemen Affairs Unit are also pushing to translate key Yemeni government reforms into better services and stability for Yemenis at this time. Lenderking met with Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak (right photo, front left), March 30; Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saaed (top center photo, right), March 30; and U.N. Special Envoy Hans Grundberg (bottom center photo, left), April 2. Since his appointment by President Joe Biden in February 2021, Lenderking has led U.S. diplomatic efforts to resolve the Yemen conflict. With contributions of nearly $4.5 billion in assistance since the crisis began more than seven years ago, the United States is one of the largest single donors to the humanitarian response in Yemen.
