Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Dickerson (right) and Azerbaijani Eurovision winner Eldar Gasimov (left) introduced the embassy’s new electric vehicle in a viral “carpool karaoke” style video, Feb. 18. The car, which is the first diplomatic electric vehicle in Azerbaijan, is one element of Mission Baku’s multifaceted efforts to support green initiatives. This move to electric vehicles is in line with President Joe Biden’s pledge to cut U.S. greenhouse gas pollution in half by 2030, by significantly increasing U.S. engagement in international climate efforts. The video received more than 115,000 views directly on social media and was widely covered by local press outlets.
