The U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE) was selected as the only non-U.S.-based recipient of a Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Neil Armstrong spacesuit statue. Since September 2019, the statue—an exact replica of Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 spacesuit created using 3-D scan data—has been touring Central and Eastern Europe. To date, more than 125,000 space fans have visited the statue and engaged with its interactive features. UNVIE’s Armstrong statue, pictured in Slovenia with Embassy Ljubljana staff members, September 2020, highlights the legacy of the U.S. space program and furthers the mission’s strategic priority of promoting U.S. leadership in the peaceful uses of outer space.
