Celebrating an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’

Posts around the world celebrated the third annual Foreign Service National (FSN) and Locally Employed (LE) Staff Recognition Day, Nov. 17, 2021. Missions highlighted the contributions of their LE staff in unique ways, including pancake breakfasts, barbeques, yoga, kudos boards, among others. As the workforce continues to balance the effects of the pandemic on their families, colleagues, and communities, the Department of State saw this event as an opportunity to reflect on the community of FSN and LE staff—who continue to work together with direct hires, family members, and contractors to meet mission goals. As an expression of appreciation, this year’s global theme was “Attitude of Gratitude.” Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent a video message to LE staff worldwide, thanking them for their numerous contributions. The Bureau of Global Talent Management’s Office of Overseas Employment compiled photos from the event, which can be seen here.
