Firefighters visit Embassy London art exhibition

Embassy London in conjunction with the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations’ Office of Cultural Heritage developed a temporary art exhibition titled, “And Yet We Rise,” which opened Sept. 1. It shares cultural objects from Flight 93 National Memorial, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, the friends group Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies, and U.S. and United Kingdom artists exploring the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11. In November 2021, current and retired members from the London Fire Brigade, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service visited Embassy London to view the exhibition. The firefighters in the U.K. share a special bond with the New York City Fire Department—the group regularly takes part in the Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5k Run. The firefighters’ visit highlighted the shared ties between the two countries, which have bonded in grief, bravery, and resilience since that day 20 years ago. The exhibition was on display at Embassy London through Dec. 31.
