Embassy Asunción celebrated the success of the Paraguay Okakuaa (meaning “grows” in the Guarani language) program in an event attended by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Johanna Villalobos, the Paraguayan minister of labor, and the Paraguayan minister of childhood and adolescence, Sept. 29. NGO Partners of Americas President and CEO John McPhail (at podium) gave remarks about the program, which came to a close after six years of cooperation in the fight against child and forced labor. Paraguay Okakuaa was a Department of Labor (DOL)-funded anti-child labor project that began in 2015. Partners of the Americas implemented Paraguay Okakuaa in two departments, Boqueron and Guaira, with cooperation from the central government, local authorities, civil society, and the private sector.
