Strategic initiative helps locals obtain land titles in Colombia

Through its Land For Prosperity activity, USAID/Embassy Bogotá supports mayors’ offices in Colombia to address urban land titling and to trigger social investment in schools and health centers through the establishment of municipal land offices. Mayor Diana Patricia Mancera (left), from Fuente De Oro, Meta, took urban land titling to a whole new level by going door to door to hand out 45 titles. Most of these new landowners have waited for more than a decade to have a title to the land where they have lived their entire lives and raised their children. These results are possible thanks to a strategic partnership between the mayor’s office, the departmental and national governments, the national registry, and USAID.
