Embassy Bamako highlights female filmmakers

To conclude Women’s History Month, Embassy Bamako brought 10 young female filmmakers together with Mali’s Minister of Women, Children, and Families for a breakfast conversation about how film can spark dialogues around difficult issues facing women and children, March 25. The women who attended are participants in an embassy-sponsored film workshop implemented by alumni of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) program financed by the YALI Alumni Action Strategy. Planned film topics include the impact of gold mining on children’s education; the psychological impact of gender-based violence; the social integration of children with physical disabilities; and the importance of educating young nomadic girls. The women will share their finished products through a “road show” to spur a nationwide conversation.
