Foreign Affairs Officer Deniece Laurent-Mantey from the Secretary’s Office of Policy Planning moderated “African American Trailblazers in Foreign Policy” during the 12th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Foreign Policy Conference, Feb. 25. The panel included retired Ambassador Teddy Taylor, retired Ambassador Aurelia Brazeal, and retired Senior Foreign Service Officer Hugh Williams, who each shared their accomplishments and life lessons learned while working as minorities in their respective fields. The event offered the opportunity for students and other attendees to hear from senior-ranking African-American officials in foreign affairs. It was one of many offered during the two-day conference, which included opening remarks by Vice President Kamala Harris.
