Fulbright Scholar to expand his research in the U.S.

Dr. Yacouba Issa Diakite (left), a professor at Mali’s University of Science and Technology, visited Public Affairs Officer Paul Cunningham (right) at Embassy Bamako, Jan. 12, before heading to Southern University and A&M College in Louisiana to pursue his Fulbright research. Diakite, an expert in the electronic properties of semiconductors, is using his time in Baton Rouge to study the properties of gallium antimonide—a semiconducting compound used in photovoltaic cells, transistors, and lasers. Diakite’s Fulbright grant will build upon his 2017 training at Southern University. He will return to Mali with the knowledge to help build Bamako’s computing and simulation center into a leader for West Africa.
