Consulate General Melbourne dedicates “Hall of Heroes” for Black History Month

In recognition of Black History Month, Consulate General Melbourne rededicated its consular waiting room as the “Hall of Heroes,” Feb. 12, where commissioned portraits of American civil rights leaders Ruby Bridges, James Farmer, Rosa Parks, and John Lewis will be on permanent display. Consul General Michael Kleine explained that the goal of this exhibition is to create a space designed not just for consular efficiency but also for education, contemplation, and inspiration. The consulate first unveiled the portraits, created by acclaimed Melbourne artist Matt Thompson, at a separate Black History Month “Pop-Up Exhibition” for 100 Indigenous community leaders, government officials, cultural contacts, students, and young professionals.
