Speaker series returns hosting disability rights advocate

The Ralph J. Bunche Library held its first virtual speaker series via WebEx, Sept. 22. The series hosted former-Department of State Special Advisor on International Disability Rights Judith Heumann, who discussed her decades-long role contributing to the development of human rights legislation and policy benefiting the disability community. Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor’s Deputy Assistant Secretary Scott Busby and Bunche Library Director Julie Arrighetti moderated the event. Heumann spoke about her experience working on her memoir, “Being Heumann,” and her involvement in the recently released documentary, “Crip Camp,” which follows a group of teenagers with disabilities that attend a summer camp in the 1970s.
