FSI hosts first-ever virtual orientation

The Foreign Service Institute concluded the first-ever virtual orientation for 157 Foreign Service generalists and specialists, June 26. Referring to themselves as “The Novel 156th/202nd,” the class adapted Foreign Service traditions like Flag Day to the virtual world while studying the foundations of diplomacy from their living rooms. Nominated by their classmates for embodying the core values of service and esprit de corps, Foreign Service Generalist Geraldine Montesinos received the Glenn Munro Award and Diplomatic Security Special Agent Candidate Andrew Muir was named class speaker. “Our class combined in a manner without precedent,” said Muir. “Foreign Service generalists and specialists, virtually, but together. As a result, we only know a State Department that exists as One Team.”
