Video Captioning @ State (VC@S) celebrated their fifth anniversary as an integral Department of State program, May 2020. The Department produces or uses thousands of videos per year for internal and external audiences, both domestic and overseas. VC@S supports compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act by providing captions for video, both live and pre-recorded, for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals who would not otherwise have access to the content. Captioning services are available in more than 70 languages. Since its inception, the program has captioned more than 20,000 videos and won the “Innovative Practice 2018 on Accessibility” award from the Zero Project, a global initiative focusing on the rights of people with disabilities.
