The Tomodachi International Choir is composed of 25 members of the Embassy Tokyo community and some of their Japanese friends. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced their group to adapt innovative ways to share their love of music. Using video conferencing, the choir virtually recorded several songs, including “Down in the River to Pray” and Japanese crooner Kyu Sakamoto’s song “Sukiyaki.” The group has been able to share their performance with Japanese social media audiences by partnering with the embassy’s public affairs section. Despite the challenges of going virtual, the choir has continued to sing and deepen the friendships that the group has brought them.
