Sports Diplomacy hosts virtual fitness sessions

Dr. Jen Welter demonstrates ladder drills during a Facebook Live event hosted by the Sports Diplomacy Division, May 6.

The Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy Division featured Jen Welter, the first female coach in the National Football League and former defensive specialist in the Alliance of American Football, for an interactive Facebook Live session, May 6. The Sports Diplomacy Division hosted Welter, one of the many professional athletes and coaches who have served as Department sports envoys, as part of its GET FIT series—a virtual outreach program combining fitness and foreign policy. Each episode features insight into the sports envoy’s experience, online fitness instruction and activity, as well as a live Q&A session with a global, virtual audience. The goal of the program is to promote messages of inclusion, resilience, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment. Launched April 22, and held each Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. EDT, each 30-minute GET FIT episode can be viewed by visiting the Sports Diplomacy’s Facebook page.
