Consul General Robert Riley delivered remarks on the role of diplomacy in the modern world to more than 100 undergraduate students who are studying for degrees in Global Governance, Economics, and Law at the Spanish university, Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ESADE), Jan. 9, in Barcelona, Spain. He discussed the importance of U.S diplomats in conflict prevention and resolution and emphasized that excellent interpersonal skills are among a diplomat’s most essential tools. Riley highlighted how lightning-fast communications technologies have changed how political leaders and governments communicate, and how this in turn has impacted international relations. He also underlined the challenges and threats of disinformation and the importance of media literacy.
