Embassy Harare program empowers women

As a part of Embassy Harare’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) program, Ambassador Brian A. Nichols hosted representatives from Zimbabwe’s main Apostolic coalitions and #HeForShe ambassadors from South Africa, Zambia, Japan, Canada, and the European Union, as well as United Nations (U.N.) and World Health Organization representatives. The #HeForShe ambassador group meets monthly and works together to fulfill the U.N. pledge to promote gender equality and stand against GBV. Leaders from Zimbabwe’s main Apostolic Faith coalitions agreed on the importance of empowering women and combating GBV, and they described their efforts to expand opportunities for women, reduce domestic violence, and educate girls about reproductive health.
