Current Jefferson Science Fellow (JSF) Dr. Elizabeth Smela presented a lecture, “Smart Cities and Their Technologies: An introduction to smart cities and the technologies needed to implement them,” to department employees and guests, Oct. 15. Held at the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, Smela’s lecture explained some of the key technologies that need to be employed in order to implement smart cities. The Distinguished Lecture Series provides an opportunity for current fellows to deliver a lecture on a topic of their choosing, related to their technical expertise and their Department of State assignment. The JSF program is overseen by the Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State, with administrative support from the National Academies.
