The Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations recently completed the acquisition of a New Embassy Compound (NEC) site in Doha, Qatar. The project team, shown here at a souk in Doha, undertook a multiyear effort to acquire the NEC site in a new Diplomatic Quarter. The site is located near two of the most prominent master-planned cities in the region—Lusail City, a 38-square-kilometer city that will eventually accommodate a population of 250,000 people and The Pearl-Qatar reclaimed island, which spans an area of 4 square kilometers and is home to 12,000 residents. Lusail will host the 2022 World Cup opening and closing ceremonies.
