U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Robin Bernstein threw out the first pitch at a Gigantes’ (Giants) game in San Francisco de Macorís last November. San Francisco de Macorís sits in the heart of Dominican farmland and is famous for rice and cocoa beans. The Dominican Republic, a country with a population of less than 11 million, accounts for 11 percent of the roster spots in Major League Baseball. Nelson Cruz and Mark Trumbo are two of a number of major leaguers to have played with the Giants.
