Ambassador’s visit highlights socio-economic relations

Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa Scott Brown visited American Samoa last November to learn more about the extensive socio-economic ties directly impacting relations between Samoa and American Samoa. Brown met with the governor and deputy attorney general of American Samoa, local law enforcement, U.S. Coast Guard representatives and U.S. Army soldiers, as well as the management of the StarKist cannery, which employs approximately 2,000 Samoan citizens. The U.S. is Samoa’s closest neighbor due to the proximity of American Samoa to Samoa.
